Your Voice, Your Choice #18 – April Jai

Today we continue with a great new feature on Belles and Gals  – “Your Voice, Your Choice”. We introduce one of our favourite songs from a  country artist and then the artist tells us in turn about a song that has inspired them and has a special place in their heart. Today we feature UK country artist April Jai.

I first listened to April Jai just two or three weeks ago, when I reviewed her debut EP ‘The Last Goodbye’. I know an artist is good, when I immediately head into the ‘Belles and Gals’ team group chat, and tell them all about it – in this case my message was ‘check out April Jai’s voice!’ April is a fantastic addition to the UK country scene and the tag ‘one to watch’ doesn’t do her complete justice, as that implies future talent. April is already there. Hit play on the video above (‘Rabbit Hole’ from the E.P.) and see for yourself.

April has chosen ‘Machine Heart’ by Kelsea Ballerini

She writes:

“I strongly believe songs come to you when you need them the most so instead of choosing one of my all time favourite songs, which is basically like choosing your favourite child. I decided to choose a song that has touched me recently.

I chose “Machine Heart” By Kelsea Ballerina. I love everything about this song, the lyrics, the vocals and the production. Kelsea sings this song with a very raspy tone but then when she’s hitting the high notes she sings so delicately, I love this contrast in her voice. The song also has an anthem like feel to it that just makes you want to put it on repeat.

Kelsea’s new album is incredible from start to finish, but it’s the lyrics of this particular song spoke to me the most. A lot of the time in life we do what others want us to do or what we think they’ll approve of, but this song tell us that it’s okay not to. We are all human and unique in our own way and so are our decisions. Going with your heart is how you know you’re being authentic.”
