Belles and Gals has a fast growing team of enthusiastic and passionate individuals, all wanting to spread the word about the music we all love. Today is the first in a series where you get to meet the team – we’ll be interviewing each team member and they’ll be telling us all about the artists they love!
What was it that got you interested in country music in the first place?
I got into country back when Carrie Underwood won American idol. I think I was only 15 when I first became aware of country. I remember hearing Carrie sing ‘Inside Your Heaven’ and seeing her flawless performance and fantastic stage presence, and along with the beautiful song I instantly became a fan. When her album was released I used to drive my mum crazy playing it on repeat and trying to sing thinking I could be like Carrie!
If you had to pick three favourite artists, who would you choose?
Fave artists? Ooh only three, that’s sooo hard! I have sooo many! Okay, so obviously Carrie Underwood and Kelsea Ballerini. A new fave has to be Lindsay Ell since witnessing her Bluebird Cafe performance, watching her insane guitar skills live and meeting the beauty herself. She has become one of my absolute favourite people in the country music scene.
And if you could only listen to one album ever again, which one would it be?
Only one album ever again? It has to be ‘Some Hearts’ by Carrie Underwood. This was the album that started my country obsession and 12 years later its still one of my fave albums to play. You’ve gotta have that one album that no matter how many times you listen, you never get sick of it and for me it’s got to be this album.
What has been your personal highlight in country music?
Personal highlight in country music for me has to be this year after sooo many years of being a fan, but being too scared to fly solo at events/gigs. I decided to drag my friend along to do the full weekend at C2C and it was there I got to meet lots of amazing people who I now class as lifelong friends, aka my country family! I now get to attend lots of country events and gigs and am no longer flying solo. Also getting to take my passion of country music further by joining the team at Belles and Gals (thanks to Nick and the team for the amazing opportunity!) – getting to tell people all about these amazing events and gigs I get to witness.
If you had to pick an artist to watch, who would it be?
An artist to watch has to be Carly Pearce. I was secretly hoping she would be added to the C2C lineup – maybe she’ll be added to the Bluebird Cafe lineup? – that would be amazing to watch her live in such an intimate atmosphere. That girl’s new album is incredible!
What is the most embarrassing record you have ever bought?!
I’m not going to lie, there has been many along the way! I used to have awful cheesy taste in music – thank god I discovered Country that’s all I will say on that matter!
To finish, tell us the last gig you went to, the last album you played and the last song you played on your phone!
My last gig was Maren Morris taking Manchester to church, which was the best way to finish off an incredible week of country music gigs I got to attend in UK. Last album was actually Taylor Acorn’s E.P. “Put It In a Song” which is a must listen by the way and last song on phone was ILYSoWhat by Hannah Ellis – I am completely addicted to this song.
