In recent months there has been a fantastic addition to the UK live country scene, with ‘Hard Rock Country’ being launched. The event brings together six or seven of the top country artists in the UK, into one high-energy and fun-filled night.
Taking place at the Hard Rock Cafe in the middle of Mayfair in London, the event is a monthly one, where the artists get to play to a packed crowd. I was lucky enough to attend the last event in the middle of January and this featured a stellar line-up of Gasoline and Matches, Hannah Paris, Danny McMahon, Rebecca Riedtmann, Callum Gardner, Croft and Cotes and Connor Arnold.
I spoke to a number of the acts on the night. Steve Marks and Sally Rea Morris of headliners on the night ‘Gasoline and Matches’ told me that they were ‘real happy to be here performing their first headline show in London‘. This performance was literally a couple of days after the duo had reached number one on the iTunes country chart, and their set was a truly excellent one.
Hannah Paris (left), who debuted her upcoming single ‘Just You Wait’ at the event, enjoyed Hard Rock Country – ‘It was amazing to play in front of such a large and appreciative crowd. It was a real fun night.” Rebecca Riedtmann (right) told me ‘The team at Hard Rock Country are awesome to work with, and it was great to play original music with my band‘.
I also caught up with the event organiser Abi Bridgeman, who told me all about the event – ”I’m really proud of this event. I think it started back in September 2016 when we had Mel Gaynor’s (Simple Minds) album launch, which was an incredible evening. Being such a success, I thought I would put on some country acts, and I started with Sasha McVeigh. My aim was to bring a country music night to a more mainstream venue, and every single show has been a sellout! I’ve been absolutely blessed with the amount of professionalism and talent that has played on the stage – including artists such as Thorne Hill, Backwoods Creek and Laura Oakes to name but a few. We like to feature both acoustic and full band sets, with established artists and newcomers all appearing. With the success of the London show, I’m hoping to take it to other Hard Rock venues around the country too.”
The next ‘Hard Rock Country’ event takes place on February 12th and features Belles and Gals featured artists such as The Adelaides, Jack and Ella, Roni and Sam Coe and the Long Shadows.
