The Truth Behind the Song #5 – Jenna Paulette’s ‘Slow Dancing on the Moon’

Welcome to our brand new feature, ‘The Truth Behind the Song’. For the feature, we’ve asked a number of our favourite artists to give us in-depth piece about a song that has a special place in their heart. Today we feature the incredible Jenna Paulette, who gives us an insight into the ‘truth’ behind ‘Slow Dancing on the Moon’.

“I recently released three new songs and videos, all with a different vibe but when put together, tell the story of a relationship I experienced in full. One of my favorites is “Slow Dancing on the Moon.” The song was written by Ashley Gorley, Hillary Lindsey and Matt Jenkins. Ashley Gorley was one of my mentors when I first moved to Nashville to start my career and I’ve loved getting to learn from him along the way. It was the first song I recorded that I didn’t write, but those writers are incredible and have written countless number one hits. It was an honor to be the vessel to share this one with the world. The minute I heard the first chorus melody hit, I felt like it was a modern-day version of the Dixie Chick’s “Cowboy Take Me Away.” Being from Texas, I’ve always admired to the Dixie Chicks, so I loved the opportunity to add my stripped down “new west” feel to a song that reminded me of theirs. Hearing “Slow Dancing on the Moon” helped inspire some of my sound and direction that has made me the artist I am today, and I’m looking forward to releasing more music like this next year!!!” – Jenna Paulette
