Yesterday (Saturday, July 27th) the ladies brought the magic to Canary Wharf for the 2019 Nashville Meets London festival. Despite overcast skies and heavy rainfall scattered throughout the afternoon spirits in the green space were high as thousands of UK country fans descended onto Canada Square for one full day of free country music.
Twinnie was the first of the incredible female artists to take to the stage and having never seen her live before I wasn’t sure what to expect but she was absolutely phenomenal and totally blew the crowd away with her energetic pop-infused set-list of hits such as ‘Social Babies’ and ‘Better When I’m Drunk’. If anyone like me in the crowd hadn’t seen her before it won’t be long before they’re booking tickets to see her live again.
Despite heavy rain falling throughout her performance, the audience danced and sang-a-long with gusto as the English singer/songwriter lit up the London stage thanks to her soulful vocals and full-on production. Pop sentiments were mixed with sweet stripped back moments that showcased her beautiful voice and a cover of Lewis Capaldi’s hit ‘Someone You Loved’ had everyone in awe.
Twinnie is without a doubt a major light within the UK country scene and after yesterday’s incredible performance she has no doubt won herself an army of new fans.
American superstar Sarah Darling was the next of the ladies and once again the adopted Brit was met with deafening cheers as she arrived on the NML stage. During Darling’s stellar performance the rain also cleared up and despite not being met with blue skies the Iowa native did bring the sunshine to London thanks to her breathtaking vocals and insanely impressive setlist.
Her standout performance was the highlight of the day for me and to see her having so much fun on stage in her second home was truly magical. ‘Wonderland’ tracks such as ‘Light It Up’, ‘Enjoy The Ride’, ‘Call Me’ and ‘Dreams Fade Away’ were sung back to the Nashville based artist much to her delight. Older tracks ‘Where Cowboys Ride’ and ‘Home To Me’ were also a major standout of the set.
During her performance, Darling also premiered the sensational new song ‘Divide’. The poignant track has serious Fleetwood Mac vibes and is already one of my favourite songs from Sarah. The sweet American also created a mass sing-a-long thanks to her stunning rendition of ‘Country Roads’. The crowd were in full party mood and almost drowned out the lilting vocals of Sarah Darling who was having the time of her life in the city she now [almost] calls home.
Lauren Alaina was the festival’s headline act and she brought the house down with her crisp vocals, funny down-to-earth personality and electric stage presence. Not afraid to get up close and personal with the adoring crowd the US hitmaker was happy to hold hands with the front row and even invited one lucky fan up on stage for a fun performance of ‘Next Boyfriend’.
Lauren was another artist who I hadn’t seen perform live before and like Twinnie she didn’t disappoint. The 24-year-old is an absolute superstar and the UK crowds totally fell in love with her. Not only is she an insanely talented vocalist she also has a stage presence that only the very best can offer.
Major standout’s of her barnstorming set included ‘What If’s’, ‘Doin’ Fine’ and worldwide smash ‘Ladies In The 90’s’. A mash-up of hits from the likes of Britney Spears, Beyonce, and Shania Twain cranked up the electrifying energy of what was a truly wonderful day and night of country music.
It was amazing to see so many British country fans coming out to celebrate the genre at Nashville Meets London and these three female artists totally stole the show thanks to their spellbinding vocals and wonderful stage presence.
