The Rising – ‘Christmas Brought You Here’ Video Premiere!

Today we’re delighted to introduce the video premiere of The Rising’s wonderful new acoustic festive single ‘Christmas Brought You Here’. I spoke to Chris Logan (one half of the rising, alongside vocalist Chantelle McAteer) about the song this week:

We are pleased to announce our brand new single and music video Christmas Brought You Here. Firstly, we were conscious that people may know us for our bigger production and layered sound. So we wanted to release a single that was stripped right back to its core ingredients in order to showcase that we can show a softer side. So we stripped this song right down to its bare bones of Vocals, Guitar and Piano.

The song itself is based around the idea that someone who is alone at Christmas, be it that they have just gotten out of a bad relationship, no family or friends to spend the Christmas period with. However, within their darkness they find a light and comfort in their faith and that is stronger than anything another person can provide. We were also aware that in this age of uber commercialism the true meaning of Christmas can get completely lost. So we thought of the idea that Christmas Brought You Here in relation to the Birth of Jesus, what that means and also how that affects the central character of the song. This is something we wanted to reflect in the music video. We shot the video in an amazing old church where we performed to the track. In addition, we also included a short animation piece into the music video to incorporate the nativity story. Once again being an fiercely independent band we shot and edited the music video ourselves.

We will admit however, that we were worried about putting out such a religious leaning song. But we both have personal ideas of faith and spirituality and we wanted to show this side of us. Its something we haven’t spoke about or talked about previously and hopefully listeners get a further insight into our lives and journey.

Christmas Brought You Here (acoustic) and full band version are available as part of the “This Special Time Of Year EP” which is available to pre-order on 6th December and released on 20th December.’
