Following on from our recent article about the upcoming album from Oh Susanna (aka Americana singer/songwriter Suzie Ungerleider) , a deluxe reissue of her 2001 release “Sleepy Little Sailor”, last Friday saw the release of a new single from the album. “Beauty Boy” is one of the original album tracks which appear in acoustic form on the reissue, in fact this track is taken from the original demo sessions. Highlighting the effortless strength of Suzie’s mesmerising voice, this intense confessional song was inspired by a relationship of her late teens and early twenties, and “the idea of violence being intertwined with passionate love”. She goes on to explain how difficult it is to “love someone and be loved by someone who wants to hurt you”. It was written in part to tell the song’s antagonist the things she “didn’t have the guts to say in person”, and was also a way for her to move on and leave the experience behind. It is accompanied by one of a series of hand drawn, behind the song, videos… at just over a minute long (the original version was only a minute longer) its lyrics never the less pack a real punch as I’m sure you will agree.
