It may be mid-Summer but a couple of fantastic female country artists are already looking ahead to the festive season. Yes, Christmas will definitely come early this year for country music fans… exactly three months early to be exact, as September 25th sees the release of festive collections from both Carrie Underwood and Terri Clark.
As I am sure many of you will already have seen Carrie telling her fans about “My Gift” last week, saying on social media that she felt that this period of such personal and spiritual reflection seems the most perfect and fitting time to put out what will be her first ever Christmas album, something she’s been wanting to do for a long time now. Adding that it is something that needs to be well thought out, she revealed that right after her “Cry Pretty ” tour she knew that this was the next project she wanted to concentrate on and that she has been recording via Zoom with producer Greg Wells, both having to learn how to do things in a different way. Its title was inspired by one of her favourite seasonal songs ” Little Drummer Boy” and its honest sentiment about how, while not being able to afford to take a gift to baby Jesus, he took his God given gift instead. She explained how ” Now more than ever we all need to focus on what Christmas is about, rely more on our family. Even though it’s been a tough years sometimes I feel like the greatest realisation can come at the worst times… it makes you more thankful for the things you do have”. Details of the album’s track list and special guests are yet to be revealed, but there will apparently be a combination of traditional favourites and original material to look forwards too. Pre-orders ( including exclusive merch) are available now, http://strm.to/CUMyGift, with vinyl ( released Oct 30th) pre-order to follow.
Following on from Carrie’s news, just a few days ago Canadian native Terri Clark revealed that she has been working on her self-produced festive album, ” It’s Christmas….Cheers!”, for the past two years, so of course that meant she didn’t face the quarantine challenges that Carrie had to navigate! It will mark the country icon’s first new album to be released on Mercury Nashville ( the first label she signed with, back in 1993 aged 25) in 15 years, its 10 songs featuring musical guests Dierks Bentley, Vince Gill, Ricky Scaggs, The Oak Ridge Boys, Pam Tillis and Suzy Boggus, with The Time Jumpers playing on every track. Each album will come with a Christmas postcard, and formats include holly green vinyl. Terri says ” I resisted making and releasing a Christmas album for many years even though i’m a big Christmas person and love the music of the season. It’s been done by the best in so many amazing ways and I wanted to wait until I felt I could make it special, be excited about it, and do it justice in my own way. Having The Time Jumpers to collaborate with and the wonderful guest artist featured-it did just that. I am eager for everyone to hear the record that was almost 2 years in the making but took 25 years to get around to”. Pre-order the album here https://strm.to/TCItsChristmasCheers
