Carly Pearce Releases New Single “Next Girl”
It was always going to be very interesting to see how Carly Pearce would follow up her chart-topping, multi CMA Nominated single “I Hope You’re Happy Now”, a song which she co-wrote and of course saw her duetting with Lee Brice.
Well last Friday we got to find out when she shared ” Next Girl” ( Big Machine Records) with the world, another Carly co-write which sees her joining forces with Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne (what’s not to like about that combination?) . At just under three minutes long, this uptempo and insanely catchy banjo-led song with its 90’s country music vibe seems to have “radio friendly” and ” hit” written all over it! Its message is a warning to the girl who will take her place after she has been dumped by a serial love-rat, incorporating clever word play (“I know what happens next, girl”) as she explains his modus operandi… she’s been there and has the t-shirt! As Carly puts it, “We live in a world where there are so many smooth-talking guys who’re so quick to sweep you off your feet” continuing that along with Shane and Josh she was asking “What would Patty Loveless do?”, the answer being that “not only would she warn the girl, she’d turn over all the cards; how he works, how he talks about the old girlfriends, what he’ll do once he’s got her”.
