Carly Pearce Releases New Single “Next Girl”

It was always going to be very interesting to see how Carly Pearce would follow up her chart-topping, multi CMA Nominated single “I Hope You’re Happy Now”, a song which she co-wrote and of course saw her duetting with Lee Brice.
Well last Friday we got to find out when she shared ” Next Girl” ( Big Machine Records) with the world, another Carly co-write which sees her joining forces with Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne (what’s not to like about that combination?) . At just under three minutes long, this uptempo and insanely catchy banjo-led song with its 90’s country music vibe seems to have “radio friendly” and ” hit” written all over it! Its message is a warning to the girl who will take her place after she has been dumped by a serial love-rat, incorporating clever word play (“I know what happens next, girl”) as she explains his modus operandi… she’s been there and has the t-shirt! As Carly puts it, “We live in a world where there are so many smooth-talking guys who’re so quick to sweep you off your feet” continuing that along with Shane and Josh she was asking “What would Patty Loveless do?”, the answer being that “not only would she warn the girl, she’d turn over all the cards; how he works, how he talks about the old girlfriends, what he’ll do once he’s got her”.

Carly admits that it was pretty nerve-wracking going into the studio to make real music for the first time since the passing of her friend and champion Busbee , but having spent quarantine thinking about where she wanted her music to go she has found her thoughts returning to the music that had captured her heart as a teenager from artists such as the aforementioned Patty as well as Dolly, Loretta, The Chicks, Trisha and Pam Tillis… who she describes as “straight-talking women who were so strong and so sassy”. And this new single definitely oozes that strength and sass in bucketloads, I hope you agree!
Congratulations to Carly for her four CMA nominations ahead of the November 11th Awards show where she is up for New Artist Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Musical Event Of The Year and Video Of The Year.
