Today sees the release of ‘Like a Bullet’, the debut single from Belles and Gals Amplify artist Robyn Red. One of the most striking aspects of the song is the sheer maturity of this debut single, coming from an artist who is literally taking the first steps in her music career. The song is about the upset of a lost friendship, the artist coming to the conclusion that all they can do ‘is just miss you‘.
‘Like a Bullet’ has a real energy to it, with a punchy feel throughout, with the verve of a pop track and that classic country story-telling. I can already see the song being a winner on the live circuit. It was already clear that Robyn was a great vocalist and this opening statement from Robyn only accentuates that ability.
If this is the start from Robyn, I can’t wait to see what comes next!
I caught up with Robyn this week for a chat about ‘Like a Bullet’
Hi Robyn, can I first ask you how excited you are about your debut release ‘Like a Bullet’?
I can’t wait! i’m so excited but also a bit nervous because it’s the first song that i’m putting out there but i’ve got a great response so far and i can’t wait to hear what everyone else thinks about it.
Tell us a little bit about how the song came about?
Like A Bullet came about after me and a really close friend of mine drifted apart. Everyday in school i had to see her and it was hard because it felt like a part of me was missing when walking about in school. One day i just took time to reflect on the full situation and then put pen to paper and wrote “Like A Bullet”.
And what was it about the song that made you decide you wanted it to be your debut release?
I wanted this song to be my debut release because it was the first song i had ever written and felt really special to me. I co-write it with Mick Hargan because I was just starting to write but i knew when we wrote it that it was going to be the first one recorded and put out there. Hopefully it’s the start of a long journey!
