When doubt creeps into a relationship, it’s challenging to decide whether to trust one’s gut feelings. A private detective, who has investigated hundreds of infidelity cases, believes there’s one revealing moment during confrontation that almost never lies.
Suspicions of infidelity don’t arise from a single incident. A partner coming home later than usual, a phone that never leaves their pocket, changing habits—these are often enough to start an endless loop of questions. However, the line between intuition and genuine concern can be very thin. This is precisely what a private detective wanted to highlight.
This expert, who operates under the name Venus Investigations on social media, shares in her videos that she has spent years investigating unfaithful partners. Through her extensive experience, she has identified common behaviors. Typically, her clients report changing schedules, suspicious excuses, suddenly secretive partners, or unusual behaviors that, individually, prove nothing. Many are in search of concrete evidence, like a compromising message or an odd expense. Yet, she points out, “there is a sign of infidelity that consistently goes unnoticed.”
According to the detective, the most telling moment is when the partner is directly confronted with the question. “If you simply ask: ‘Are you cheating on me?’ and the response is anything other than a clear and direct ‘no’, then that should raise a red flag,” she explains in an Instagram post. She specifically notes responses like: “Do you really think I’d cheat on you?” or “I can’t believe you’re accusing me of this. Just because I came home late from work, you think I’m cheating?” In her view, all these answers have one thing in common: they dodge the question rather than answer it. This, according to her experience, is a major warning sign.
Conversely, it’s also important not to see signs of cheating everywhere. Mental health professionals, including psychotherapist Malka Shaw interviewed by the media outlet Verywell Mind, remind us that the fear of being cheated on can sometimes overwhelm, especially after a negative experience. If one has previously been cheated on, if they grew up in a distrustful environment, or if a past relationship ended poorly, even minor changes can become suspicious. At such times, it can be easy to confuse intuition with anxiety. According to the organization BetterHelp, an online therapy platform, “introspection and, in some cases, therapy can help distinguish between intuition and fear.” For those not ready to discuss these issues with a psychologist, starting the conversation with a trusted friend can be a good alternative.
