It may only be October but country legend Reba McEntire is getting into the festive spirit with the release of her Christmas covers LP ‘My Kind Of Christmas’. The Holiday album will be released worldwide on October 13th and here we review the record ahead of its release.
The Christmas LP opens with a jingly version of ‘Winter Wonderland’. The festive tune is given a country makeover by Reba and her vocals make the track her own. It’s a really great opening song and gets the album off to a great start.
Other songs on ‘My Kind Of Christmas’ include ‘Jingle Bell Rock’, ‘Santa Clause Is Coming To Town’, and ‘White Christmas’.
McEntire’s voice transports you to a special festive place and you can’t help wishing it was December and you were wrapped up in front of the fire on Christmas Eve while the snow falls outside.
The standout on the record is Reba’s stunning version of ‘O Holy Night’. Her sweet stripped back vocals make this gorgeous song her own and the country arrangement makes it feel even more special.
There are also fantastic collaborations with huge names including Darius Rucker, and Kelly Clarkson, which add another fantastic layer to the festive album.
Overall ‘My Kind Of Christmas’ is a well rounded, feel-good Holiday record however I can’t help feeling that an October release is a little too soon it would have been better suited to a November or December release but this takes nothing away from the music.
