INTERVIEW: Jenn Bostic Talks New EP ‘Take My Hand Part 1’

On Tuesday, November 19th Nashville favourite Jenn Bostic will release her much-anticipated EP ‘Take My Hand Part 1’. The record is the first taste of new music from the country-gospel singer/songwriter in several months and fans are excited to hear the new tracks.

Here at Belles and Gals we are delighted to have a chat with Jenn Bostic ahead of the record’s release:

Your new EP releases on the 19th, how excited are you about getting this project out into the world?

I am incredibly excited to release “Take My Hand Part 1.” It is a project I have been working on with my dear friend Lauren Christy for about a year and a half, and I have grown so much throughout the process of creating it.

What are you hoping fans take away from the project?

I am praying this project brings peace and encouragement to the listener. One of my favourite tracks, “Wrestling,” is about not having all the answers to some of life’s most difficult questions. I hope this track inspires compassion and love toward people with different points of view.

Would you say ‘Wrestling’ is your particular favourite song on the record?

It is so difficult to choose a favourite track, but “Wrestling” has always been one that particularly speaks to me. For the same reasons above, I think there was a beautiful vulnerability that poured out in openly admitting that I don’t have all the answers. “God of Big Dreams,” is a really fun gospel song that has been an encouraging anthem and a crowd favourite as well.

What was the writing process like for the EP?

All of the songs were written by Lauren Christy and myself, with the addition of Benj Heard on “Wrestling,” “Holy” and the original Christmas track, “Tell Me Again (Immanuel).” Lauren is an incredible writer, producer, and friend that I have been working with for the last seven years. Those who have been following my career will recognize her name as a co-writer on previously released tracks including “Faithful,” “A Little Grace” (featured on BBC Songs of Praise), “Lamp,” and many more. She is a world-famous songwriter and producer, writing hits for Avril Lavigne, Jason Mraz, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Dua Lipa, Bebe Rexha, The Struts, etc. The two of us have a sort of sisterhood synergy, and it was incredible to create an entire project together.

Can we expect any surprises on the record?

Yes, Lauren Christy and I sing “Praise You,” as a duet!

The EP is titled Take My Hand Part One, what made you want to release it in stages rather than as a full-length album?

While we have 11 tracks finished, I wanted to give people the opportunity to first become familiar with a handful of songs. So often I have released a full-length album, highlighting a few singles, and the lifespan of excitement for the project seems so short in comparison to the life of creating it. I want to take my time releasing this in pieces so the listener has a chance to truly hear the message we are sharing in this music.

When can we expect part 2?

At the moment no formal release date has been set, but you will be hearing part 2 some time in 2020.

Do you have any plans to release music videos for any of the songs?

Yes! A few videos have already been finished, and I am very excited to share them.

Are you hoping to tour this body of work?

Yes, I will be touring this body of work, starting with a Christmas tour that kicks off next week in Minnesota.

What does the rest of 2019 look like for you?

2019 will wrap up beautifully with the release of this project I have been so passionately working on. November 19 is the release date for Take My Hand Part 1, November 18 is the start of an 11 date Christmas tour, I will be a bridesmaid in one of my best friends’ weddings at the end of the month, and finally, I’ll find myself sitting around the Christmas tree with a hot cup of cocoa surrounded by family for the holidays.
