Exciting New Album ” Ashley McBryde Presents : Lindeville” Announced

Set for release on 30th September via Warner Music Nashville but available to pre-order now (https://ashleymcbryde.lnk.to/Lindeville)  Ashley McBryde’s new album is in fact one which the Arkansas native and her collaborators on the project had no intention of ever recording or releasing! But thank goodness they changed their minds, because the concept behind the John Osborne produced ” Ashley McBryde Presents: Lindeville “ is both intriguing and exciting!

Inspired by the writing methods of legendary Nashville songwriter Dennis Linde ( hence the name of the album’s titular fictional town) and featuring performances from Ashley, Brothers Osborne, Brandy Clark, Aaron Raitiere, Pillbox Patti ( aka Nicolette HayfordCaylee Hammack and Benjy Davis the thirteen tracks bring to life a cast of characters you may encounter in any of America’s small towns.

The songs were born during a week long songwriting retreat that Ashley and a group of her favourite co-writers spent in a rural cabin outside Nashville in what started out as an academic exercise . It sounds like they all had the best time from what Ashley has to say about the experience…..” It was eight bottles of tequila, two cartons of cigarettes, one kitchen table and six individuals out of their minds.”

What sparked the idea for the retreat and subsequent album was Ashley reflecting on some of her previous writes and looking to expand on the characters she’d created … “A few years ago, Aaron Raitiere, Nicolette Hayford and I were on a write,” she shares.  “We wrote this song called ‘Blackout Betty,’ and I realized we had written previous songs called ‘Shut Up Sheila’ on Never Will and ‘Livin’ Next to Leroy’ on Girl Going Nowhere. Aaron had a song called ‘Jesus, Jenny,’ and I thought, ‘We should keep these characters together and give them a place to live!’

And from the track listing below I think it’s safe to assume that Lindeville has some very colourful residents and establishments, and I for one can’t wait to be introduced to them!

John Osborne explains how he approached the first full-length album he has produced himself, saying ” One of the things I tried to do was capture each character as a performance. I listened to each song, and I wrestled with it for a while. Do I want to make the songs sound the same? Make it sound like it’s all done in one room on one day? And then I thought to myself, ‘Each song has to represent not only a different character, but a different emotion and a different story.’ There is certainly continuity between the tracks – we have vocalists and mostly the same musicians on every song. But I decided to take different approaches to each song because it needed to represent the story “.

The final words about the project need to come from Ashley herself , who says  “I just hope that when a few, even just a handful, of people listen to the record and it ends with the line ‘Nothing but stars over Lindeville,’ they put their hands over their heart and say, ‘What a nice trip that was’.  And for the whole running time of the record, nothing else had to matter. You got to focus on other people’s drama and other people’s problems and got the reminder that everything’s all right.”.

I think that bit of escapism is something we could all do with right now.
