Features, design, value for money: we’re putting the new Cookeo from Moulinex to the test to see if it’s worth the hype!
With the release of the new Cookeo, Moulinex invited me to test their latest device. As someone who usually prefers homemade cooking, I typically rely on my trusty stockpot and a simple saucepan (and sometimes a pressure cooker). But let’s be honest: cooking daily can be quite time-consuming, and a little help is always welcome!
Curious about the improvements in this “smart cooker” – whose previous versions have already won over many of my friends – I decided to dive in. “You’ll see, once you try the Cookeo, you won’t be able to live without it,” a colleague whispered to me. That was enough to get me intrigued: challenge accepted.
Cookeo Wifi 9-in-1: What’s New?
There are two major changes in this new version of the Cookeo.
The first is immediately noticeable: its design! Moulinex has moved away from the iconic rounded shape of the device, opting for a more modern appearance. The model I tested (CE952810) comes in black, but it is also available in white on the manufacturer’s website. In terms of practicality, the new Cookeo is more compact. Its base has been reduced by a few centimeters in diameter, making it slightly less bulky on the countertop. The capacity of the pot remains unchanged at 6 liters.
The second major update involves the functionalities of the device, now enhanced with three innovative cooking modes: slow-cooking (low temperature cooking for exceptionally tender textures); sous-vide cooking, which involves cooking food in a sealed bag submerged in water to preserve flavors and textures; and finally, a “yogurt maker” mode to create homemade yogurts.
Other new features include accessories such as the Batchcooker Express, which allows you to prepare three meals in one go using stackable glass containers, similar to a tiered steamer (available for 89.99 euros). There’s also a set of 8 mini jars sold for 64.99 euros. Note that this new Cookeo is compatible with the Extra Crisp lid, which adds an air fryer function to your device.
The device used for this test is priced at 279.99 euros, although there are also more upscale models offering even more features.
My Review After One Month of Use
After several weeks of using the Cookeo, I’ve been able to try most of the cooking modes: pressure, steam, stewing, browning, reheating, keeping warm, slow cooking, yogurt making, and sous-vide. Indeed, these are the 9 modes offered by the latest Cookeo. My favorite? It’s undoubtedly the pressure cooking mode, which cooks food 5 times faster than traditional methods. It’s no wonder this feature has catapulted the Cookeo to the forefront of modern “pressure cookers.”
Chicken one-pot pasta, quick blanquette, risotto with mushrooms ready in 20 minutes, ultra-fast steam cooking. I also tested the low-temperature cooking and the texture of my salmon fillet was perfect: extremely tender, yet still firm and well-shaped.
I enjoyed using this device daily: the LED screen allows for smooth and intuitive navigation. The My Moulinex app (to be installed on your phone) features over 10,000 recipes and is exceptionally well-designed. Another plus is that the device is relatively quiet, even during steam cooking, which is a departure from the typical noise of traditional pressure cookers. The sound alerts are discreet and limited to the essentials, avoiding unnecessary notifications. The pot of the device is dishwasher safe, thus making cleaning less of a chore. Indeed, once you’ve experienced the Cookeo, it’s hard to give it up.
A negative point to note: the lack of an integrated scale. For a device designed for daily use with detailed recipes, this feature would have been a real asset. Another minor drawback is the steam basket, which could be of higher quality (the handles tend to unclip easily). A detail, however, that hasn’t prevented my daily enjoyment of the device.
After a month of testing, I can now affirm that the Cookeo is a good investment for saving time in the kitchen and prioritizing homemade meals. Far from being just a gimmick, it’s an easy-to-use appliance that really can’t go wrong: the entire family can get involved. The app allows you to try new recipes, which is handy when you’re out of ideas for your weekly menu.
Is the New Cookeo Version Really More Interesting?
If you’re planning to give or receive a Cookeo for Christmas and are undecided on which model to choose, it will mostly be a question of budget.
The model CE952810 is priced at 279.99 euros. On the brand’s website, you can find Cookeos in their old version around 200 euros. So, you would need to add about 80 euros to benefit from the new design (which isn’t just a matter of taste, considering the space saved on the countertop).
The new cooking modes, such as low-temperature cooking, are an advantage if you aim to prepare healthier meals while preserving the benefits of the ingredients. But these features are not what make the Cookeo a daily ally. However, the “yogurt” mode could save you a lot of space in your cupboard by saying goodbye to your almost untouched yogurt maker received for Mother’s Day 10 years ago.
So, is it really worth opting for the new model? I would say yes, because it is (slightly) less bulky thanks to its new design, and I was won over by the low-temperature cooking. If on a limited budget, you could always opt for an older version, which still allows you to enjoy the main features of the device. But if Santa is particularly generous this year, know that Moulinex has launched the Cookeo Touch Pro (priced at 499.99 euros), which includes a scale, a large touch screen, and even more cooking modes. It’s safe to say that this is the premium model: the Rolls-Royce of Cookeos, so to speak.
In conclusion, the model CE952810 at 279.99 euros is a good option as it combines numerous features and a redesigned look, all at a mid-range price.
