Cats are known for their independent nature, but one orange tabby named Clyde has taken his freedom to a whole new level. Deciding that one home wasn’t enough, Clyde wandered into his neighbor’s life—and her house—making it his second home.

A Curious New Neighbor
Elle Mackesey, who lives in an old farmhouse in rural Illinois, frequently saw her neighbors’ cats exploring her property. Among them were Henry, Mama, and Clyde. Over time, Elle formed a particularly close bond with Clyde, the charming orange tabby who seemed to have a knack for appearing just when she got home.
“He would sit outside my shed, meowing for food and attention,” Elle recalled. “Then, after hanging out for a bit, he’d run across the fields back to his home.” But Clyde’s visits soon became more frequent, and he started greeting her every evening when she returned.
From Visitor to Resident
One day, Elle found Clyde curled up and asleep in her car, looking entirely at ease as if it were his personal nap spot. But that was just the beginning. A few weeks later, Clyde made a bold move—he settled into Elle’s bed. From that moment, the orange tabby became a permanent nighttime guest, sleeping in her room every evening.
A Tale of Two Families
Luckily, Clyde’s original family wasn’t upset to hear about his new living arrangements. On the contrary, they embraced his dual-residency with kindness. “They’ve been so thoughtful,” Elle shared. “They even gave me large crates of wet food for Clyde and my other cats.”
Elle stays in touch with Clyde’s first family, updating them regularly on his well-being and antics. The arrangement seems to work seamlessly, with both families happy to share this lovable feline.
Home Is Where the Heart Is
Clyde’s story highlights the quirky independence and charm that cats are famous for. For Clyde, one home simply wasn’t enough. By splitting his time between two households, he’s living his best life, surrounded by comfort and care. And for Elle, Clyde’s presence has brought joy and warmth to her farmhouse, proving that sometimes, home is wherever a cat chooses to be.
