Krysten Ritter is passionate about indulging in a gripping thriller.
“Apart from reading scripts, immersing myself in a captivating thriller is my go-to activity during travels,” the “Jessica Jones” actress shared with Page Six. “That’s the reason I write in this genre — the suspense captures you right from the beginning and doesn’t let go. It’s the kind of engagement I need in a book, especially when my schedule is hectic and my thoughts are racing.”
Ritter mentioned that one of her aims with her latest novel, “Retreat,” currently available, is to surprise her readers with unexpected plot twists.
“Having been a reader who often predicts endings, I understand the challenge involved!” she noted.
While Ritter predominately chooses thrillers to satisfy her reading appetite, she admits her preferences are diverse.
“I also have a deep appreciation for both fiction and nonfiction that influence my outlook and thinking in significant ways,” stated the author of “Bonfire.” “The following books are ones that have not only influenced my writing but also impacted me personally.”
“The Boyfriend” by Freida McFadden
“I picked this up at an airport recently, and it truly kept me on my toes. I’m usually good at predicting twists, but this one caught me off guard. It’s a perfect thriller that grabs you from the moment you start reading,” Ritter said.
“The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne
“This classic really resonates with me! It reinforces the idea that your focus directs your energy flow. I discovered it at a young age, and it serves as a powerful reminder that your thoughts create your reality. It’s a fantastic tool for realigning with your core beliefs and the strength of your thoughts,” she explained.
“None of This is True” by Lisa Jewell
“I found this book exceptionally creative and brilliantly structured. It gripped me so intensely that I couldn’t even put it down while making coffee,” Ritter recounted with enthusiasm.
“Meet Me in The Bathroom: Rebirth and Rock and Roll in New York City 2001-2011” by Lizzy Goodman
“Having been in New York City during the early 2000s, I experienced those incredible years of the music scene. This book brings back those memories vividly, making you feel like you were right there at the concerts of The Strokes, Interpol, and The Rapture,” Ritter recalled fondly.
“Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine” by Gail Honeyman
“This novel is definitely one of my all-time favorites. Eleanor’s character is so beautifully crafted that she stayed with me long after I finished reading. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in deep character development,” she expressed.
“Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk” by Legs McNeil and Gillian McCain
“Being a major music enthusiast, I was captivated by this raw, oral history of the punk scene in New York. The layout of the book makes it incredibly immersive, almost as if you were part of that era,” she admired.
