Here we speak exclusively to Steve Young to find out even more about Corn On The Cob;

What made you want to launch Corn On The Cob?

I was trying to imagine the perfect gig, locally, that I would love to play at (as an artist). The Corn Exchange is a great venue and I’ve played there a few times so it all seemed perfect. Unfortunately as the organiser I now don’t get to play it although I will take part in the Songwriters Circle just so I can get a feel for it from both sides.

Are you hoping to make the event an annual occurrence?
I’m aiming for a monthly event but depends how quickly I get through acts that want to play. There isn’t a great deal of choice when it comes to UK Americana headline acts that can sell 200 tickets. I have plenty of solo and acoustic acts for the earlier sets though. Also still a couple of great UK Headline acts waiting in the wings

 How excited are you about the line-up for your first event?
Really excited. I approached the acts directly. Dexeter & Holloway Road are two bands that always crop up when I’m doing the rounds. The UK Country scene is still very new and the general public are still quite blinkered to what the genre is but these bands are showing promise. As Baylen Leonard said at the BBC Introducing Event at the Excell – “most people love country music they just don’t know it”
What can fans expect from the evening?
Six acts, two great bands that have a decent UK profile. 3 songwriters trading songs in-the-round and an intimate set from local singer songwriter Cara Beard who is one half of the duo Darline who are signed to Warner and work/co alongside Ben Earle from The Shires all the time.
