Taylor Swift Makes a Return to Country Radio with New Single ‘Betty’

Taylor Swift is marking a return to the Country genre which laid the foundations for her stardom. Following the release of her Folky-Americana-esque eighth studio album Folklore’, Swift is preparing for the harmonica laden track Betty to dominate the country radio airwaves following on from the incredible success and critical acclaim the surprise new record has gathered in its first week of release.

The track, set to be added to be airwaves on the 17th August, has been co-written by Swift alongside William Bowery. The stripped back track was produced by long term collaborator of Swift’s, Jack Antonoff with the assistance of The National’s Aaron Dressner. ‘Betty’ is being pushed to country radio and affiliates by MCA Nashville, an imprint of Universal Music Group, who Swift signed to in 2018.

’Betty’ has seen wide praise from fans and critics already with it’s incredibly imaginative storytelling and expertly crafted lyrics. So much so that the lyricism of the track has lead to fans to produce TikTok’s which continue from the cliffhanger of the story which Swift has coined in the final verse.

The track is Swift’s second foray into the country radio market since her shift from the genre in 2014. In 2017, New Years Day the final track of her Reputationalbum was promoted to the country market by her previous label Big Machine Group reaching a height of 41 on Billboard’s Country airplay chart.

Swift’s latest album Folklore has broken records by becoming the most streamed album on the first day of release by a female artist on Spotify (exceeding 80 million streams). Alongside this, the record hit number 1 on the iTunes Charts in 86 territories and is the most steamed pop album on Apple Music exceeding 35 million streams.
