Introducing Judy Blank
It was great to hear so many talented female artists performing during my recent Nashville trip, many of whom were new to me.
One such “ discovery” hails from slightly nearer to the UK than all the rest, in fact Judy Blank is from The Netherlands! It was lucky that I managed to catch her on the last afternoon of my visit at ” Big Stage Mondays”, a weekly event presented by the wonderful Backstage Nashville team at 3rd And Lindsley, a show I highly recommend you check out if you get the chance!
Judy won me over immediately, I loved her engaging personality, distinctive and emotional vocals and great guitar playing. Then of course there was her writing, the few songs she played included her recent single “ Mary Jane” which as I’m sure you’ll guess isn’t about a girl! https://youtu.be/QgkSGLmt-po
It was the success of Judy’s debut album “ When The Storm Hits” released in 2014 when she was only in her late teens that led her to make several trips to the southern states of America shortly afterwards . She made an immediate impression playing small bars in Louisiana and became an in demand performer, with local radio exposure also helping to raise her profile. A trip to Nashville was the next logical step and inspired by the pure country and Americana she heard she spent her time there both co-writing and performing, including at the legendary Bluebird Cafe, before returning to Europe.
But it was back to music city not long afterwards to work on her sophomore album “ Morning Sun”, recorded at Nashville’s Southern Ground studios and produced by Chris Taylor ( who’s credits include the mixing on Miranda Lambert’s “ Weight of These Wings”) .
We will be interviewing Judy nearer the album release on 7th September but in the interim you can check out her website and find links to her socials here judyblank.com
