REVIEW: American Young’s ‘Soundtrack Of Your Life’ EP

American Young are back! The country duo return on August 23rd with brand new EP ‘Soundtrack Of Your Life’ a record which is possibly their best body of work to date. The pair consisting of Kristy Osmunson and Jon Stone will share their new collection at the end of the month following the success of the first single of the same name which dropped at the beginning of August.

The EP opens with ‘Gonna Be You’ which builds with sweet vocal harmonies before Jon’s strong vocal kicks off the heartfelt track. It’s a soulful opening to the record that showcases the emotive lyricism American Young have to offer.  Emotional love songs are the backbone of the country genre and this one is right up there with the very best.

Up next is ‘Die Another Day’ which has slightly more edge compared to the first song featured and allows for Kristy’s pure voice to really shine in the opening moments. Like a soft rock-edged lullaby this one builds to an emotive climax of the purely divine harmonious chorus about putting everything behind you in order to start again.

At number 3 is the title track which has been a huge hit for the duo so far and it’s little surprise as to why so many fans have connected with this one. Luscious Lady Antebellum Esque harmonies meet The Shires inspired toe-tapping pop-infused production to create an anthemic song that will be a massive favourite when performed live.

The penultimate track on the EP is the inspired ‘Falling Star’. This is a shining beacon of hope and a truly beautiful song about pure love and that first feeling of falling. American Young really come into their own on these sweet slow love ballads and this one is possibly the best they have ever recorded.

The EP closes out with ‘Seminole Wind’ which drives the record into new territory with its funky, folk-infused country production that wraps the whole body of work together perfectly. It’s a different vibe compared to the previous tracks but somehow works wonderfully to bring the entire sonic sound together.

Overall ‘Soundtrack Of Your Life’ is an EP that embodies everything fans have come to love about American Young and is fresh enough to win them new listeners along the way!
