Lauren Jenkins Covers Springsteen On New Singles
When we interviewed fast rising Nashville artist Lauren after her UK visit last October she told us how her favourite artists are storytellers, mentioning Bruce Springsteen among those who influence and inspire her ( https://www.bellesandgals.com/2019/10/09/interview-with-lauren-jenkins/). Her sold out headline show during that trip included her cover of ” I’m On Fire” , a stunningly beautiful slowed down version, and her latest release via Big Machine last Friday sees her interpreting two more Springsteen writes, “Hungry Heart” and “Stolen Car”, both tracks from his phenomenal 1980 album “The River”.
With regards to this double single release, Lauren says “Covering Springsteen can be intimidating. No one can do Bruce like Bruce can. So instead of trying to copy Bruce, I brought my own truth to these two songs. I chose not to change any of the lyrics, but instead brought a woman’s voice to a man’s song“. Something I feel she has done perfectly… these stripped back versions bring her smouldering, soulful vocals to the fore, and I really love the arrangements especially on the atmospheric second track which is totally dreamy!
Stream/download the songs here https://bm.lnk.to/HHSCPR and hopefully we will get to hear the them live when Lauren opens for Brett Eldredge on his string of upcoming UK dates shown below.
Oh and congratulations to Lauren on being named one of the best “New Acts in 2019” by Nashville Scene’s prestigious 20th Annual Country Music Critics’ Poll in addition to being named an Artist To Watch by The New York Times, Billboard, Rolling Stone and Pandora!
