Today, (Friday, March 13th) Brit rising superstars and future country music stars The Adelaides have shared their gorgeous live version of the Nashville fan favourite ‘Sanctuary’.
The track has been officially released by Charles “Chip” Esten after their duet was recorded during his sell-out UK tour where the trio supported him on the road.
Here we chat exclusively to The Adelaides to find out more about the stunning collaboration:
Congratulations on your new collaboration with Charles Esten, how excited are you to be working with him?
This is our very first (hopefully not the last) single release with him! Chip has become a very special friend to us and we’re so honoured to be working with him again.
How did the decision to make this live version of Sanctuary an official single come about?
’Sanctuary’ was one of the first covers we ever sang as The Adelaides and we also performed it live in Nashville when Chip came to watch us for the first time back in September 2018. He asked us to sing it with him during his headline set on his tour when we supported him both times in January 2019 and October 2019- the song just seems to silence the audience and it became a real show stopper. The idea came to record it live and we couldn’t say no!! To actually release it as an official single is just mind blowing to us as this song has always held a special place in our hearts.
You first started working with Charles last year, how did he approach you about touring with him?
Charles and Patty (Charles’ wife) came across us on social media after we had uploaded some live videos of us performing at festivals and he got in touch with our team about having us as his support act for his UK tour. We are all big fans of the show ‘Nashville’ and were extremely excited when we first heard the news about supporting him!
With Charles being a star in the States, do you now plan on more promo over there surrounding your music?
We could definitely hope so! We’ve been to Nashville twice now, we filmed our first music video there, recorded our whole album and also played CMA Fest in 2019 so we definitely hope to be able to work more over there and spread our music overseas!
What can fans who weren’t lucky enough to see you perform live on the tour expect from this live version with Charles?
Harmonies and emotion are what spring to mind when we think about this song and when we performed the live version with Charles, and that’s exactly how every show was on both UK tours we did with him. Charles is a big fan of harmonies which is one of the reasons why he chose us as his support, so that’s exactly what we tried to add to the song.
This is a huge milestone in your careers so far, how are you planning on celebrating this moment?
It is such a big moment for us! We never dreamed of releasing a single with such an amazing musician and person as Charles is. We are so very grateful for this opportunity. We will definitely be celebrating with a honey whiskey or two- that’s become our tradition now!
With all this experience under your belt, when can we expect a headline tour from you?
Hopefully really soon!! We will have to wait and see…
You’ve confirmed your working on your debut album too, when can we expect more details about this project?
We’ve been working on our debut album for a while now and have finally finished the recording process. Next we need to shortlist the final songs and go from there. We’re hoping for a release later this year.
