“Oh Susanna” Releases Acoustic Track Ahead of Album

Born in Massachusetts and raised in Western Canada, Americana songer/songwriter Suzie Ungerleider who is better known under her artist name of ‘Oh Susanna’ has built quite following on both sides of the Atlantic since releasing her debut album “Johnstown” in 1999. She can include Bob Harris among those who have championed her, he has spoken about the “heart-tugging emotive quality ” of her voice and this is perfectly showcased in her latest release, an gorgeous acoustic version of “Sleepy Little Sailor” which is the title track to her 2001 album due for re-release in deluxe format on 4th September. The re-issue sees some of the tracks get a re-working and also contains six previously unreleased acoustic recordings, this one included. Susie says of the song ” Who is the sleepy sailor? I think we have all been the Sleepy Little Sailor at some point in our lives, trying to save our dreams in the face of greater forces of nature”…maybe at the moment we are all clinging on to our dreams just a little bit more than ever!
There’s a great handmade” behind the song” video to accompany this track too

As well as highlighting Suzie’s vocal abilities, these stripped back versions also help draw the listener in to her wonderful storytelling lyrics and in particular the characters she writes about, such as “River Blue” in which she sings of the long-lasting effect of child abuse on close relationships. These songs are just as powerful today as they were 20 years ago.
