Erin Enderlin Collaborates With Terri Clark On Upcoming Release “If There Weren’t So Many Damn Songs”

Naturally here at Belles and Gals it’s always great to hear news of two incredible female Country artists collaborating. And that’s exactly what is in store this Friday, 10th September, when Erin Enderlin releases the next in a series of tracks ahead of her upcoming bar room themed EP. This is one she is particularly excited to share because on “If There Weren’t So Many Damn Songs” she duets with the fantastic Terri Clark.  “It was so damn cool getting to record this with her” says Erin, who of course has co-written many songs recorded by the multi-Platinum selling Canadian, including “Not Enough Tequila“, “As Long As There’s A Bar” , “Weddings, Funerals And Empty Hotel Bars” and “Cowboy Christmas“. And she goes on to explain “I’d been wanting to do something with Terri Clark – she’s a big influence of mine and a friend – and this song reminded me of a game she likes to play where basically she becomes a human jukebox and starts playing about any country artist you can imagine“.

Not wanting to give too much away, all I’ll say is that the fun song is a celebration of the honky tonk life, and in particular an ode to the bar’s magnetic lure when you are trying to drink away your troubles… a lure which of course ironically includes all the heartbreak songs you are likely to hear as you perch on your barstool!  There’s more than just a touch of “tongue in cheek” attitude in this track, for sure!
Erin produced the track and plays acoustic guitar, with herself and Terri sharing lead vocals as well joining together for some gorgeous harmonies. And It will come as no surprise to those familiar with Erin’s love of the traditional Country music she grew up listening to in Arkansas that there’s an abundance of fiddle and steel in the accompaniment right from the start (full credits below) .
Talking about how the song evolved, Erin says “I wrote “If There Weren’t So Many Damn Songs”with my buddy Kayla Ray – whom you might recognise as a co-writer from my last release “If I’m Not In Hell.” Last year, Kayla and I had both been a little blocked writing wise, so one week we challenged each other to write a song and send them in by Sunday.Kayla had written a little different version of this song and I absolutely loved it.I asked if she might be willing to do a little woodshedding on it with me and she jumped at the idea.We met up at her Airbnb in East Nashville and tweaked some lyrics and added a bridge and voila, honky tonk magic.I really love how the song turned out“.

Watch out for the track’s accompanying video, too, which premieres via CMT on 15th September, exactly a month before Erin steps into the circle for her 15th Opry appearance.
