Priscilla Block Puts Her Nay Sayers In Place on New Single “Peaked At High School”

It’s only been a few months since Priscilla Block released her impressive self-titled EP, but the North Carolina native certainly isn’t resting on her laurels as last Friday saw her give us a brand new single, “Peaked At High School” and accompanying lyric video

Co-written with Sarah Jones, Kate Hasting and Josh Beale (Kate and Josh together form duo Hasting and Co.) and produced by Jake Curry, Robbie Artess and Justin F Johnson, its simple acoustic guitar backing helps the ear focus on the song’s wonderful lyrics which were apparently inspired in part by her teenage feelings of insecurity. “I wrote this song about anyone who ever made me feel like I wasn’t enough….but I am living proof that high school is NOT the peak and you ARE enough” she explains.Yes, while being very amusing it also conveys an important message, with definite echoes of Ashley McBryde’s “Fat and Famous” .
Priscilla moved to Nashville straight after graduating from high school to follow her heart and dreams of making it as a country artist, and though her journey to date has been far from easy she is now signed to Nashville’s Universal Music Group, something that gets referenced in the line “I got a deal you got divorced“. There are so many lines that are worthy of a mention here, among my picks are “You got the gal on Friday night, I stayed at home and learned to write, you rolled your eyes at my guitar strings” and the killer ending “To all the girls who made me cry, thank you for being here tonight” but no doubt you’ll all have your favourites!
Talking about the single on social media a few days before its release, Priscilla calls it  “The savage song that we’ve all been waiting for” adding that “this one goes out to anyone who ever called me fat growing up and thought that I wouldn’t make it“.
