Haley Whitters Releases New Single “The Neon” From Upcoming Album “Raised”

Last Friday, exactly a month before her hotly anticipated third album “Raised” drops on March 18th, Hailey Whitters gave us another taste of what we can expect via her new single “The Neon” . Following on from the well-received lead single “Everything She Ain’t” , this latest track sees her co-writing with Lori McKenna and Rodney Clawson, their first collaboration, and while it may be a break up song it’s definitely not totally devoid of positivity. As the Iowa native explains, while the song is “about a broken-hearted bender on the town “she is quick to add that “there’s no broken heart a barstool and a cold beer ( or shot of tequila ) can’t fix“.
Talking about the writing session, Hailey tells us that “Lori brought in the title. I think the next line that came out of the room that day was ‘ here comes the sad part’ and we instantly knew it was this ‘ tear in my beer’ type lyric. “.
Listening to the track, I love how it starts with an expansive, cinematic style, string laden introduction which may be short but wow isn’t it absolutely beautiful ? And I’m happy to say the fiddle is a stand out feature in the instrumentation throughout. Then we have Hailey’s distinctive vocals coming in, describing watching all her hopes and dreams driving away… “there goes my reason for buying that dress, all of my plans out the window I guess” she sings ruefully. But just before the first soaring chorus she adds “You can be the that goes, I’ll be the one who got away” intimating that her ex will ultimately regret his decision to leave… see, I told you there were elements of positivity in there! And that chorus itself is a celebration of getting over things in the way so many of us do, heading for “The Neon” in your local bar .
Talking of local bars, the accompanying Harper Smith – directed lyric video was shot at Dee’s country Cocktail Lounge in Nashville , where of course Hailey relocated to pursue her dreams of making Country music.
