My Year in Country Music – A Guest Piece from Lisa T

A year ago on Saturday, I released my first ever country single, ‘A Year Too Long’. And what an incredible year it has been since. Here’s my look back at the year!

Last year, on the 26th February my debut release in the country genre came out. It was an incredibly exciting day, with a great deal of nerves too – I had absolutely no idea how the song would be received. Therefore, it was incredible to see the song hit number two on the iTunes UK country chart. And not only that, I started meeting (virtually) many of the fantastic people on the UK scene. People reached out and I couldn’t have been more welcomed into the scene.

Off the back of the song I was offered my first ever management deal with the great team here at Belles and Gals. It’s been a fantastic ride ever since. My second single, ‘Babydoll’ was released in August last year and that went one better, giving me my first ever Number One on the UK country chart.

In the last few months I’ve been lucky enough to do co-writes with some of the best artists on the UK scene. They include Gary Quinn, Elaine Lennon and Joe Martin. There are so many amazing radio shows in the UK and I’d like to send a particular thank to the team at ARC radio who made my ‘Christmas Treat’ release, a cover of the wonderful Patsy Cline’s ‘Crazy’, as their song of the week.

I’ve been lucky enough to perform at some incredible venues and events, including The Old School BBQ Bus, The Castle and The Whiskey Jar plus many more in and around Manchester. I have also played my first ever gigs in London, for Live in the Living Room at the Bedford in Balham and at the Slaughtered Lamb for Belles and Gals.

I also received my first ever award nomination! I was lucky enough to be one of the four nominees in the ‘Best Newcomer’ category at the UK Country Music Spotlight Awards.

Since the turn of the year I’ve been preparing for my first release of the year. I can’t give away too much info yet, but it will be out within a couple of months and I am just so excited what that will bring. I can’t wait for you all to hear it.

Yesterday I released my first ever podcast – ‘Lisa T Spills the Tea’ – take a listen to episode 1 here:

My first year has been incredible and I couldn’t have done it without the overwhelming support that everyone on the UK country scene has given me. Thank you so much!

A special thanks to my wonderful team – Nick Cantwell and Sam Melrose for being by my side the whole way (I promise I didn’t pay them to write that!)
