Citroën Recall Alert: Two More Brands Pull Cars Over New Issue – Which Models Affected?

Just a few months ago, 2.5 million vehicles were recalled, with 1.7 million of them designated as “stop drive,” meaning they were not to be driven. Brands like Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Citroën, DS, Ferrari, Ford, Honda, Mercedes, Nissan, Opel, Seat, Skoda, Toyota, and Volkswagen were affected. The issue then was the dangerous Takata airbags installed in these vehicles, requiring owners to visit garages for replacements.

In September 2025, another recall was announced, this time involving different car brands and for a different issue. According to recall notices published on RappelConso, the defect relates to the parking brake. The position sensor of its actuator is incorrectly angled, “leading to improper engagement of the stop pin in the ‘P lock’ position and a parking brake lock when the ‘P’ button is pressed on the gear selector, when the engine is off, when the driver’s seatbelt is unfastened, or when the driver’s door is opened”.

This serious flaw could potentially lead to accidents and injuries. Several vehicle types are affected, starting with models from Renault. The recall includes the Captur II, Megane E-Tech, Scenic E-Tech, Austral, Espace VI, Symbioz, Master IV, and Rafale. The involved vehicles were manufactured between April 10, 2024, and May 7, 2025. This recall also affects the Dacia Duster Country Cold Edition produced between October 31 and November 2, 2024. Vehicle owners unsure if their vehicle is affected can easily find out by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on Renault’s or Dacia’s website, depending on the brand.

While the parking brake issue does not require immediate vehicle immobilization, it is still crucial to address it swiftly. Owners of the affected cars should contact their Renault or Dacia dealerships to schedule a prompt repair, which will realign the parking brake. Also included in Renault’s recent recalls are certain diesel models. This time, owners are offered a free dealership service. The preventive operation involves cleaning and updating the anti-pollution systems (EGR valve, particulate filter, NOx trap) to prevent breakdowns, reduce fuel consumption, and decrease pollutant emissions. Only Euro 5 and Euro 6b diesel vehicles produced between January 2011 and September 2015 are eligible. While not mandatory, this measure could enhance the reliability and resale value of the vehicles involved.
