“This Could Clog the Resistance” – Expert Warns Against Common Air Fryer Practice
The air fryer has rapidly become a trendy kitchen gadget, and it’s easy to see why. It boasts numerous benefits: it allows for healthier cooking with far less fat (think ultra-crispy fries with barely any oil), it cooks faster than an oven, and it saves on dishwashing. Yes, unlike bulky oven trays, air fryer cooking baskets are completely dishwasher safe, reminds Oi Ping Fok, a product manager for Ninja, a leading air fryer brand. This convenience, however, leads many to make a classic mistake…

This bizarre French customer habit is driving shop owners crazy
There are certain things you should never place in an air fryer, and this was the first thing the Ninja expert pointed out. It’s something we often do out of habit, likely because we’re used to doing it in a conventional oven. We might think it will make cleaning easier afterward. However, this practice can impair food cooking and even risk damaging the device… the use of parchment paper. “We think we’re doing the right thing by lining the cooking basket with parchment paper or foil. We believe it will keep it from getting too dirty, but in reality, it can become dangerous,” explains the product manager. Indeed, with the hot air system propelled by an internal fan, “the paper could take flight and clog the heating element“, she continues. If the paper sticks to the heating element, it can overheat and, in the worst-case scenario, catch fire.
Air fryer baskets don’t require any lining for cooking; their coating is designed to withstand heat and they clean perfectly in the dishwasher. Therefore, lining them with cooking paper is completely unnecessary! Now that you know this, you won’t take unnecessary risks anymore.
