His persistence finally paid off when Gissell, the founder of Paws of Hope NYC, heard about his plight. Without hesitation, she rushed to his rescue. When Rocket saw her, he sprinted toward her, his injured cheek visible as he rubbed his head affectionately against her hand, signaling his relief and trust.
Safe at Last
Rocket’s first stop was the veterinarian’s office, where he received much-needed care. Parched from the summer heat, he eagerly drank cool water and enjoyed a proper meal after days of hunger.
Recognizing the strain on shelters, one of Paws of Hope NYC’s volunteers stepped up to foster Rocket while he recovered. “Shelters are overcrowded and rely heavily on foster families,” the volunteer explained.
In his new safe haven, Rocket began to flourish. His once-matted fur became sleek and shiny, and his healthy weight returned, thanks to the care and affection he received. His foster home became his sanctuary, filled with warmth, tasty meals, and toys to keep him entertained.
A New Chapter of Happiness
Rocket’s story touched the hearts of Gissell and her team, who worked tirelessly to find him a forever home. Their efforts paid off earlier this year when Rocket was adopted by a loving family who instantly fell for his charm.
Now settled in his new home, Rocket’s life is filled with joy. He follows his new humans like a shadow, always ready to snuggle or nap under the blankets by their side. His days of fear and uncertainty are firmly behind him, replaced by love and comfort.
