Cats always have a favorite person within the family. But before they make their choice, here are the factors that determine who will receive all their affection.
Cats interact differently with each family member. For instance, while a cat may be especially affectionate with one person, it could be distant or even fearful towards another, and playful with children. Essentially, these small felines adjust to the personalities of each family member, focusing on traits that interest them. And before they choose their favorite, cats have their own set of criteria! Being a cat’s favorite person isn’t something that just anyone can achieve.
Unlike dogs, which seem to establish a certain hierarchy with humans, cats do not view their owners as “leaders”. To them, all humans are equal, but not all humans necessarily fulfill their needs. A cat will gravitate towards the person who provides daily reassurance and security, enhancing their well-being. Naturally, the person who feeds them, provides water, and offers affection will score points! Moreover, a cat will particularly value someone who attends to their daily care needs, such as keeping their litter clean, ensuring a comfortable living environment, and maintaining their health.
However, simply taking care of a cat does not guarantee becoming their favorite person. Cats tend to prefer humans based on their personalities. It’s clear that this factor plays a critical role. For example, kittens may be drawn to children who are more playful, while other cats may choose individuals with calm demeanors, offering a stable routine and a peaceful environment.
Ultimately, it depends on your cat’s needs, but most often, our pets are attracted to the reference person, the one who takes care of them on a daily basis.
