Alex Cooper’s Feud with Alix Earle Escalates Amid Husband’s Media Storm

Last week, Alex Cooper expressed frustration over her ongoing conflict with fellow podcaster Alix Earle, complaining about what she perceived as contrived controversies stirred by her ex-colleague at Unwell Network.

A week and a day later, the situation escalated when Cooper and her Unwell Network were spotlighted in a revealing Bloomberg article on Monday. More reports are expected to follow. Insiders shared with Page Six Hollywood that Vanity Fair is about to release an investigative article, and either Variety or The Hollywood Reporter is planning to publish something similar. The upcoming Vanity Fair story is reportedly going to bring additional scrutiny on Cooper’s husband, Unwell’s head Matt Kaplan, a producer whose career in Hollywood began as an intern for Les Moonves at CBS and who once ambitiously claimed to THR that he aspired to emulate Tupac.

The Vanity Fair exposé on Unwell is being penned by Clara Molot, known for her 2024 profile of Earle in Air Mail.

Molot’s previous work, titled “Getting Into Bed with Alix Earle,” featured less-than-hard-hitting inquiries such as a walk-through of Earle’s nighttime skincare routine.

Whether Molot has refined her journalistic approach since then is a question on some minds, particularly among those in Cooper’s circle who recall her earlier piece on Earle as overly adulatory. They also point out that Molot has only recently embarked on her reporting career. (Vanity Fair did not reply to a request for comment.)

Moreover, another podcaster hinted at upcoming critical coverage of Cooper last week. On April 14, Harry Daniels, a well-known figure on TikTok, recorded an episode of “Chronically Online” where he mentioned a “major critical article” targeting Cooper and Unwell soon to be published in “Variety or The Hollywood Reporter.”

However, when the episode was broadcast on Sunday, the segment mentioning Cooper had been cut.

An insider fortunately provided us with the omitted footage, where Daniels described the forthcoming piece as likening Unwell to a “toxic workplace, very much like the 2020 Ellen DeGeneres scandal. My friend was contacted by a journalist seeking a comment on the exposé. So I tried to alert [Cooper’s team].” Daniels’ representative declined to comment on why the segment was removed.

Amidst all these developments, both Cooper (“Call Her Daddy”) and Earle (“Hot Mess”), represented by UTA, continue to make significant impacts in the predominantly male-dominated podcast industry. Back in 2024, I reported Unwell’s decision to part ways with Earle, a topic that still generates curiosity. UTA has not issued any statements on this matter.

As for Kaplan, those who know him from Hollywood aren’t shocked by the negativity surrounding him at Unwell. One industry veteran, who knew Kaplan when he was married to his first wife, actress Claire Holt, described him as a “parasite and celebrity-chaser” who habitually dates “wealthy blondes” like Ashley Olsen and Erin Foster. (Kaplan’s representative declined to comment.)

Even someone currently collaborating with Kaplan, who believes the negative press is unjustified, is baffled how Kaplan managed to marry Cooper, noting, “She’s incredible. He is … well … difficult.”
