A Showdown in Hollywood: The Golden Globes Ownership Dispute
As Hollywood gears up for the Golden Globes weekend, reports from Page Six indicate a growing tension between the new proprietors of the event and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which has been the backbone of the awards for nearly eight decades.

It appears that the HFPA members are highly upset as they are largely being excluded from attending this Sunday’s star-studded event. Notable celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Timothée Chalamet, Demi Moore, and Zendaya are expected to be in attendance, mingling and celebrating their achievements.
The HFPA, established in 1943 by a group of international entertainment journalists, inaugurated the prestigious awards ceremony a year later, setting the stage for what would become a significant Hollywood event.
However, a major shift occurred two years back when Eldridge Industries, led by Chelsea F.C. owner Todd Boehley, proposed to restructure the organization. This new structure would divide the operations into two segments: a profit-driven entity managing the awards and the non-profit HFPA.
Under this agreement, 66 “legacy members” of the HFPA were promised an annual salary of $75,000 for five years, along with health benefits, lifelong voting rights for the Globes, and other perks. Notably, they were also supposed to receive four tickets each to the annual Hollywood gala, according to the members.
Contrary to these claims, sources from Eldridge have stated that tickets were never included in the agreement. Nonetheless, members have insisted to Page Six that the tickets were indeed part of a supplementary add-on to the primary agreement, not a principal clause.
The HFPA found itself in turmoil after 11 of the salaried legacy members were unexpectedly dismissed from their positions.
The prevailing sentiment among the association now is one of exclusion, as if they are being sidelined from their own celebration.
From Center Stage to the Sidelines
Previously, HFPA members enjoyed prime seating in the ballroom of the Beverly Hilton, rubbing shoulders with A-list celebrities and nominees. This year, however, about 50 members have been relegated to a “viewing party” in a separate function room within the hotel. Here, they will watch the event unfold on television screens rather than experiencing it live.
Adding to their grievances, the invitation to this viewing party was only extended to them on Friday, barely a day before the festivities were scheduled to commence.
