Even Beauty Gurus Get Tricked

It’s not just everyday folks who get fooled by makeup magic; even beauty connoisseurs like Gwyneth Paltrow fall for it. During a memorable encounter on the set with Timothée Chalamet, Paltrow mistook his character’s makeup for genuine skin issues.

Paltrow, the mind behind the wellness and lifestyle brand Goop, shared her amusing gaffe during a recent podcast episode of “The Run-Through with Vogue.” The mix-up occurred while they were shooting a new film about the world of ping-pong.

Makeup Mishaps On Set

In the film titled “Marty Supreme,” Chalamet sports a look that includes pockmarks and smaller, beady eyes enhanced by contacts and glasses. Paltrow recounted, “It was all prosthetics and makeup, and I completely fell for it.”

The 29-year-old actor, during a conversation about his on-screen appearance, prompted Paltrow to offer some unsolicited skincare advice. “I suggested microneedling, thinking those were real acne scars!” she laughed. Chalamet had to correct her, revealing that his flawed skin was just movie magic.

“I was totally taken aback,” Paltrow admitted, praising the film’s makeup artists for their convincing work. She also complimented Chalamet’s natural complexion, describing it as exceptionally flawless.

Reflecting on her own career, Paltrow noted she hasn’t undergone such dramatic facial transformations for a role, although she mentioned her controversial appearance in the 2001 comedy “Shallow Hal,” where she wore a fat suit and prosthetics.

The Story Behind “Marty Supreme”

Chalamet takes on the role of Marty Mauser in “Marty Supreme,” a character inspired by 1950s ping-pong icon Marty Reisman. Directed by Josh Safdie and produced by A24, the movie tracks Mauser’s tumultuous rise from a shoe salesman to a celebrated table tennis star in New York City during the 1950s.

Paltrow plays opposite Chalamet as Kay Stone, a married film star and his love interest. She hinted at the complexity and intensity of their relationship in the film, mentioning to Vanity Fair that their scenes together were particularly exposed and vulnerable.

Audiences can catch all the action and drama when “Marty Supreme” releases in theaters on December 25.
