Jennifer Lopez Gears Up for the Oscars

Jennifer Lopez is ready for the Oscar buzz.

The multi-talented star, aged 56, showcased her sculpted abs in a stylish gray crop top by Alberta Ferretti, complete with beaded fringe sleeves, paired with a form-fitting pencil skirt at The Envelope’s 2025 Oscar actresses roundtable.

The figure-embracing set, a creation of the brand’s new head designer Lorenzo Serafini, included criss-cross straps around the waist that highlighted Lopez’s well-known dance-honed midsection.

Styled by her trusted fashion partners Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn, the New Yorker completed her ensemble with gray pointed-toe heels and her hair styled in long, straight locks with caramel highlights.

Insights from the Roundtable

Lopez was among the company of Gwyneth Paltrow, Emily Blunt, Elle Fanning, Tessa Thompson, and Sydney Sweeney for the LA Times’ “Women in Film” issue, where these celebrated actresses discussed their experiences with criticism, breaking industry norms, and their roles in this year’s challenging films.

In her latest musical role in “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” where she performs wearing a nearly 50-pound dress, Lopez expressed how she has often been a focal point for both praise and harsh criticism throughout her three-decade-long career.

“Right from the start, I seemed to attract both positive attention and significant negativity,” she shared with the group. “It’s challenging because you find yourself thinking, ‘These people don’t really understand or see the real me.’ And then, sometimes they do, and then they don’t again,” Lopez added.

The mother of 17-year-old twins Emme and Max, whom she shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony, mentioned how she manages to stay unaffected by external noise by remaining true to her roots.

“I’ve always made it a point to affirm myself and stay grounded,” she stated. “Fortunately, I had wonderful parents who instilled a strong sense of self in me from a young age.”

Recently, she has been projecting this self-assurance through her fashion choices, like the powerful skirt suit with a deep neckline she wore earlier this month at The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment Gala.

During the discussion, Lopez also addressed the stereotypes in the entertainment industry, recalling early warnings about how venturing into music after her roles in “Selena” and “Out of Sight” could ruin her acting reputation.

“I was told, ‘They’ll never take you seriously as an actress again,’” she remembered.

Defying Expectations

Gwyneth Paltrow, aged 52, pointed out that Lopez defied those warnings by achieving the rare feat of having the No. 1 movie and No. 1 album at the same time, an achievement that earned her a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Lopez continued, “People always try to box you into one category. I started my perfume and clothing lines and now have J.Lo Beauty. You have to pursue what feels right for you.”

With her latest fashion statements and her central role in the Oscar conversations, it’s clear that Lopez is doing exactly that—following her own path.
