At the premiere of “The Reunion: Laguna Beach” this Thursday, the 39-year-old former star of “Laguna Beach” chose a white strapless mini-dress paired with a black choker, echoing her memorable attire from the first episode of the MTV series.
In that 2004 debut episode titled “A Black & White Affair,” Lo Bosworth criticized white dresses as “trashy and tacky” while preparing for a themed party.
Defying expectations, a young Cavallari appeared in white, leading to a sarcastic comment from Lauren Conrad: “I like how we’re all wearing black and Kristin’s wearing white. How ironic.” This remark not only highlighted their rivalry but also cemented Cavallari’s image as the show’s iconic rebel.
Prior to walking the red carpet at Shutters On The Beach in Santa Monica, Calif., Cavallari shared the thought behind her outfit on the Instagram Stories of her brand, Uncommon James. “Tonight I had to wear a white dress, and it needed to be a sophisticated version of the original,” she explained.
Her ensemble was completed with Uncommon James’ Laguna black choker, priced at $45, along with beige lace-up sandals and a black clutch.
On Instagram, she remarked, “Someone said Laguna Beach is back…and that means the black choker is too.”
At this event, Cavallari was not the only one in white; fellow co-stars Lauren Conrad and Morgan Smith (formerly Olsen) also chose white dresses for the premiere.
The event was in celebration of “The Reunion: Laguna Beach,” a two-hour special by Roku set to premiere on April 10, which reunites the original cast—including Stephen Colletti, Bosworth, and Talan Torriero—for the first time in two decades. Cavallari, Conrad, and Colletti also took on roles as executive producers.
In the recently released trailer for the reunion, Cavallari directly addresses her past rival. “We have never had a conversation on camera just the two of us. Are you ready?” she asks Conrad.
Cavallari, a mother of three, described the filming process as “very therapeutic” and revealed that she and Conrad have since become friends. “Everyone can put away their team Lauren and team Kristin shirts now,” she announced on Instagram last year.
“Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County” first aired on MTV in September 2004 and continued for three seasons. Inspired by the popular teen drama “The O.C.,” it traced the lives of teenagers in the affluent California town, propelling Conrad, Cavallari, and Colletti to fame and spawning spin-offs like “The Hills” and “The City.”
