On Friday, when Post Malone postponed the initial weeks of his stadium tour promoted by Live Nation with Jelly Roll, he stated the delay was to allow more time for creating new music before commencing the tour.

However, several music news outlets have attributed the postponement to poor ticket sales, referencing an industry-wide issue currently known as “Blue Dot Fever.” According to insiders, Malone is the latest to be affected by this trend. The term “blue dots” is used to describe unsold seats on Ticketmaster’s venue maps.

El Paso’s ABC station KVIA reported on the cancellation of Malone’s show at the Sun Bowl, showing a Ticketmaster map filled with blue dots—indicating unsold tickets—and highlighted, “the blue ones are empty seats.” Malone has not released new music since 2024 and had just completed an extensive tour of 80 stadium shows before pausing the upcoming “Big Ass Stadium Tour Part 2.”

Malone explained that the postponements were not due to ticket sales issues. He told his fans, “Honestly, I promised you all some fantastic new tunes, and I just don’t have them ready yet. We’re not ready to hit the road just yet, so I’m pushing the tour back by about three weeks to finish up this music.”

Another Case of “Blue Dot Fever”

Meghan Trainor also recently canceled her “Get In Girl” tour organized by Live Nation, citing the need to focus on her family and work-life balance after the birth of her third child in January. Despite Trainor’s reasons, there were whispers that ticket sales were partially to blame. She did not comment on these speculations and expressed to her fans, “Juggling a new album launch, preparing for a national tour, and welcoming our new baby girl into our now family of five has been overwhelming. I need to put my family first and be present for them at this moment.”

Zayn Malik is another artist who has halted his Live Nation summer tour, pointing to unspecified health issues. This announcement came shortly after he posted a hospital bed photo. According to a report by Variety, the ticket sales for his U.S. tour were “soft,” as indicated by Ticketmaster’s seating charts. Malik updated his fans about his recovery, stating, “I’ve been at home recuperating. I’m doing well and will come back stronger than before.”

Amid these incidents, a seasoned ticket sales specialist commented on the situation, suggesting that “Blue Dot Fever” stems from artists being overly optimistic about their ticket sales, asking, “Will the artists push back against these trends? It’s damaging to the fans.” He speculated on Malone’s situation, “Why launch another stadium tour? He might need to cancel more dates. Guess what? No one bought the tickets — they’re all priced too high. It’s a mess for everyone involved.”
