Selena Gomez is openly infatuated with Benny Blanco in their latest collaborative album, “I Said I Love You First,” released this Friday. The album sees Gomez openly pining for her fiancé and music producer, shedding her former child star image from her Disney days while exploring their nearly two-year romance.

The album kicks off with a heartfelt spoken-word piece where Gomez expresses gratitude towards her support circle. Prior to meeting Blanco, she reflects on past heartaches in “Young and Hotter Than Me,” a melancholic piano ballad reminiscent of Lana Del Rey, where she laments over an unfaithful ex she regrets loving.

Despite the heartbreak, Gomez revisits an old flame “one last time” in the seductive, mostly Spanish track “Ojos Tristes” (“Sad Eyes”) before Blanco enters her life.

She soon finds new love, declaring her newfound independence in the upbeat “Don’t Wanna Cry,” which stands out as a potential summer hit and a highlight of her career.

The relationship heats up quickly with “Sunset Blvd,” a playful track recounting their passionate first date, complete with teasing lyrics that playfully build suspense before revealing the word “Heart!”

The flirtation escalates in “Cowboy,” where Gomez breathily sings about an intimate night, and “Bluest Flame,” an AutoTuned track influenced by Charli XCX, where the couple boasts about their enduring passion.

Gomez is so captivated by Blanco that she claims to have completely erased any lingering thoughts of her past relationship in the biting track “How Does It Feel to Be Forgotten.”

By the time “I Can’t Get Enough” plays, the couple’s love is all-consuming, portrayed as the only reality they know, despite the song’s repetitive hook.

“I Said I Love You First” marks a return for Gomez as a leading pop figure, while Blanco masterfully handles the album’s production, ranging from brilliant to chaotic.

The album concludes on a tender note with “Scared of Loving You,” where Gomez vulnerably admits over a voicemail-like recording that losing Blanco would be devastating, solidifying their perfect match.
