Q: What are the current trends in tourism in Cannes and the French Riviera during this period? Which hotels are fully booked?

A: This summer, the French Riviera and Amalfi Coast are our top markets with revenues nearly doubling since 2022. Almost every luxury hotel is at capacity, although there are still some hidden spots in Monte Carlo and Cannes, and even exclusive estates like the Byblos in St. Tropez, Four Seasons Cap Ferrat, or the Hotel du Cap in Antibes. The trick is to snatch up last-minute cancellations.

Q: Can you share some lesser-known attractions for visitors post-Cannes Lions?

A: Cannes is the spotlight this year, especially with the exciting transformation of the legendary Carlton, which has completely redefined the city. In recent years, the elite travelers had been overlooking Cannes for places like Monte Carlo, Antibes, or Cap Ferrat due to a shortage of exceptional accommodations.

With a $500 million renovation, the iconic hotel on the French Riviera has transformed into France’s trendiest hotel and has single-handedly revived Cannes as the ideal Riviera destination. We recommend pairing a stay there with visits to Monte Carlo, the stunning new Maybourne Riviera, or the lively St. Tropez. For those seeking a mix of detox and retox, a drive into the magnificent Provence, just two hours away, offers a perfect getaway.

Q: Did you get to see the renovated Carlton? How is it? What would attendees of Cannes Lions love about the new setup?

A: Some hotels are so majestic they give you chills, and the Carlton is one of them. Regent has masterfully renovated one of the world’s most iconic hotels while preserving its spirit. The hotel remains a classic, honoring its original art-deco and Belle Epoch architecture but with a modern, bright, and sleek twist.

The addition of an expansive courtyard and pool offers a fantastic view for those not facing the Croisette. The rooms, with their bright white carpets, rich lacquer woods, luxurious amenities, and fine linens, are exquisite. The dining options have been elevated, and the terrace now hosts possibly the best breakfast scene along the coast.

Q: You mentioned Provence as another destination for travelers post-Cannes. I heard George Clooney was at Villa Gallici in Aix after the festival this year. What are the accommodation options there, and is tourism increasing in that area?

A: Le Bastide in Gordes and Villa la Coste are the new gems of Provence, each offering a unique experience. Le Bastide, revamped by the renowned Airelles group, sits in the ancient village of Gordes overlooking the Luberon Valley with a refreshed traditional style. On the other hand, Villa la Coste is a modern villa amidst a vast vineyard adorned with striking modern art.

Near Avignon, Crillon-le-Brave is located in a historic commune, beautifully modernized with luxurious amenities, while the charming Fontenille just outside of Aix provides a cozy atmosphere akin to staying at a friend’s Provençal home. And for those who crave constant excitement, St. Tropez remains the ultimate hotspot on the coast.

Q: What are your personal favorite spots in the region in terms of hotels and restaurants?

A: I also adore the quaint village of Les Baux and the charming Ostau de Baumanière. It may not be the newest or most polished destination, but it is overflowing with character and soul.

Q: Are there any must-do or must-see activities while in Cannes or the French Riviera in general?

A: I’m absolutely enchanted by the French Riviera, no matter the season. There’s always something happening. I particularly enjoy Monte Carlo in the winter – it boasts restaurants and shops as sophisticated as those in Paris but with a milder climate and fewer crowds. The Casino remains one of the most glamorous experiences one can have.

Art enthusiasts should visit St. Paul de Vence, filled with art galleries. Strolling along the Croisette is always a delight. As a nature lover, I recommend a road trip to the nearby Calanques National Park, a truly breathtaking sight. I enjoy spending time at beach clubs and nightclubs in Cannes like the Carlton Beach Club, Plage Keller, and my favorite, Baoli Beach, which transforms into an incredible nightclub at dusk.

While it may not have the glamour of Cannes or Antibes, I love shopping in the old town of Nice. After a day at the beach, walking through Juan les Pins is a must, where you can meet local families in this charming village nestled among the jet-set favorites of Cannes and Antibes. And no visit is complete without a quick boat trip to La Guerite Island for lunch!

Q: Despite concerns about economic volatility and a potential recession, you’ve mentioned that travel is thriving. Why do you think that is?

A: It’s a phenomenon. People continue to spend as if the money is burning a hole in their pockets! They are flocking to the Mediterranean this summer and planning for the Caribbean during the winter holidays, regardless of costs. We’ve been talking about a recession for over two years, but it hasn’t impacted our bookings. What the future holds, who knows? That’s why I believe everyone wants to live in the moment and deal with finances later. After all, you can choose to live with memories or dreams. You only live once!
