BJ Barham – American Tobacco Company
I was lucky enough to see BJ Barham live recently, when he performed at the Borderline as part of his UK tour. I have to say I found watching him perform completely inspiring and he is one of the reasons that I’m having a ‘male’ weekend on the site.
During the gig he told the story about how this song was about his grandfather, who would work 12 hour shifts sitting at a machine for five days a week for most of his life, never complaining. A song about a generation of people who were raised on the ‘American Dream’ and the eventual realization that hard work didn’t always equal success.
If you’ve never listened to BJ Barham before, you must – intense and brilliant. His solo album “Rockingham” is out now.
