The Sound Lounge is a relatively new venue based in Tooting and it’s very close to our hearts here at Belles and Gals. Since we launched we’ve had four live gigs and two of those have been at the Sound Lounge and we hope to plan many more! Both nights were tremendous and I (Nick) have been to the venue on many other occasions too – I’ve also made it pretty clear to everyone that it’s my favourite venue in London, despite its young age.Unfortunately the Sound Lounge is under threat right now.

An application to develop the building which currently houses The Sound Lounge, has been submitted to demolish & build flats, a hotel & large retail spaces.  While this is hugely disappointing and upsetting for a music fan like myself, the Sound Lounge is much more than just a music venue. You’ll regularly find charity events, family workshops and art exhibitions, while they are also training 8 refugees. To say that the venue has become a hub for the whole community is an understatement – to allow it to go would be a disastrous decision.

Fortunately there is something you can do. There is a petition you can sign with a target of 5,000 signatures – currently it is almost 2/3rds of the way to the target. Here is link:

Go ahead and sign it. I’m not from Tooting, but I value what the venue stands for and I hope to see many more such venues crop up too. Let’s not start knocking them down…
