Interview with Amy Lawton

We first featured Amy Lawton just a couple of weeks ago, with her brilliant new single “Undone”, which is accompanied by the equally impressive video. In fact, we enjoyed it so much, we had to speak to Amy to find out more! Here’s how it went!

Hi Amy, Our introduction to you was through your fantastic new single ‘Undone’. Tell us how the song came about!

Thank you! The song first came about when I was at a gig, about a year ago. My ex showed up to see me uninvited and I pretty much started writing the song as we were talking.

The accompanying video to ‘Undone’ is simply brilliant. It was filmed around London? It looks like it must have been a lot of fun to shoot.

Yes it was so much fun! It was the first time I’d ever made a music video, so I wanted to film in locations around London which I go to a lot. Regent’s Canal is my walk to the studio and Apples and Pears is a place I’ve performed in a few times. We shot most of it in the daytime on busy streets so sometimes it was difficult but I like what all the people added to the video.

So tell us where it all started. And which artists have inspired you?

I started writing songs really young and then at the age of about 14 started teaching myself guitar so I could put some music to my songs. Then I started playing in a rock band at school called ‘Rebelle’. We weren’t that good but it just made me realise how much I loved performing! I loved listening to country artists like Tim McGraw and Carrie Underwood, as well as Suzanne Vega who all defiantly inspired me.

What would you say has been the highpoint of your career so far?

Either when I got to support Jack Savoretti at the Cadogan Hall last year, as that was the biggest crowd I’d ever got to play to, or the first time I heard my song on radio, I was at work waitressing when it came on, it was very exciting.

If you could choose the perfect gig, where would it be and which artist would join you for a duet?

At the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, and with Johnny Cash.

To finish, tell us your plans for the coming weeks and let us know where we can download your single ‘Undone’!

Tomorrow I’ve got band rehearsals for my gig on Monday night supporting Jesse Terry at the Victoria Dalston, and Friday I’m doing my first ever live TV interview on London Live. I’m also looking forward to releasing some more music soon! You can find my song ‘Undone’ on Spotify, iTunes or Deezer.
