Interview with Zoe Warren
It’s always fantastic to feature a new artist on Belles and Gals, especially when they are as talented as Zoe Warren. Zoe released her new single “Hurricane” on Friday and the moment I heard it, I knew I had to find out more about the song! So I did – here is my chat with Zoe. And download the single here – plenty have, last time I looked it was riding high as number 3 in the UK country chart.
Hi Zoe, So your new single “Hurricane” came out this week! Can you tell us all about the song?
Hi! The song “Hurricane” is written entirely by me and is a really personal one. In a general sense, I’d say the song is about how everybody is going through something that nobody else knows anything about. People put on a brave face and carry on acting like everything is fine when sometimes we aren’t and that can be really difficult. For me personally, it is about having anxiety. I’ve always been a worrier, even as a child. It wasn’t until really this year that I felt like I needed to get a handle on it as my life was just run by my anxiety. I really am so much better now, but this song just sort of came to me one day when I was feeling a bit worked up and lost, thinking about how nice it would be to just let it all go and start living life to the fullest. Songwriting is such a passion of mine. This song really just fell out of my head so easily and writing from a very real place made me feel like I had turned those worries and feelings into something I’m passionate about; something really great. I wanted it to be a song that was relatable to everybody too on some level.
How exciting is it to have a new release out there?
So exciting! In just one day of it being released, it’s made it to number 3 on the iTunes Country Charts and I’m so amazed, grateful and over the moon! I’ve worked really hard on my music for a long time and it’s really fallen together nicely with my new single.
For people who haven’t heard your music before, what kind of sound can people expect to hear?
My first album “Fairytales” (available via my website) is a real mixture of pop, country and rock. I’ve been very influenced by a lot of different artists and I think that came out on my first album. My newest music is very pop/country. My songwriting style is country, very much telling stories, while I really like a pop influenced production too!
And tell us a little about yourself – what made you want to become a singer?
I always sang from when I was really small. I sing around the house, in the car, along to the radio in shops – you really can’t shut me up! I always did shows in and outside of school growing up too. I started songwriting aged 14 but never really properly recorded and worked on my songs until my late teens. By 18 I was out gigging around Cumbria, just me and my musical partner Lee accompanying me on piano/guitar and singing a real mixture of genres. Once I started working on my own songs I really began performing them at gigs and feeling passionate about creating my own music. I’m now in my early twenties and I’ve become more and more inspired by my musical peers and my drive to get my songs heard is stronger than ever.
To finish, tell us where we can download a copy of “Hurricane”!
Hurricane can be downloaded from iTunes, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Google Play and Spotify. Links to all of these platforms can be found on the store page of my website www.zoemusic.co.uk
