Your Voice, Your Choice #47 – The Belles

Today we continue with our popular “Your Voice, Your Choice” feature on Belles and Gals, the 47th edition of the feature! We introduce one of our favourite songs from a country artist and then the artist tells us in turn about a song that has inspired them and has a special place in their heart. Today we feature the wonderful ‘The Belles’!

We featured the Belles for the first time earlier this week, the daughter/mother duo whose name strikes a real chord with our own website. The duo recently released their self titled E.P. and having featured the official video for the second track ‘The Leavin” last time, I thought I’d opt for a live track. ‘Set In My Ways’ is a high energy track with a nice slice of attitude – ‘I’m a Wild Child, I’m a Rolling Stone, But I Still Know My Way Home, Right into the Arms of Nebraska Skies‘, my highlight line of the track. As you can see from the video clip above, there’s a real joy in their live performance – cannot wait to catch ‘The Belles’ live myself.

The Belles have chosen ‘The Sweetest Gift’ by Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris

‘This song means a lot to us because it was the first song we sang together as a duo! The song tells a story about the power of a mother’s love, which fits us because we are a mother/daughter duo. This song also has really intricate beautiful harmonies that make it fun to sing together. Both Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris are both big influences in our music as well. This is the music that I (Kelli the daughter) grew up hearing my mom play and sing in our kitchen in Omaha, Nebraska. Hearing this song brings back so many fond memories both from my childhood and as a teenager just learning how to sing.‘
