Shannon Hynes – “I’m Not Pretty’ Out Today and Hits the Top Spot!

The name Shannon Hynes might be familiar to regular readers of Belles and Gals, as she is a member of our team! Today she released her debut single ‘I’m Not Pretty’ and what am impact it had – the song hit the number one spot on the UK iTunes Country Chart! 

I spoke to Shannon earlier this week and asked her to give me a bit of background about the song:

‘I wrote ‘I’M NOT PRETTY’ on the 17th November a couple of years back. The reason I remember the exact date is because it’s my parents and my then flatmates anniversary. This particular night it seemed like everyone I knew was on a date, my friends were going to a fancy restaurant, my parents were cooking steaks at home, another of my friends was on a tinder date (hmm, maybe I wasn’t jealous of that one), to say the least, I was feeling very sorry for myself. Little did I know, that night I wrote what was to be my first single.

‘I’M NOT PRETTY’ is a statement. Yes, it came from a place of lonesome and sadness, but just to listen to the vibe and instrumentation of the song, clearly it’s not meant to be that. It has such a deeper meaning now, especially considering it’s my first release. I just hope everyone loves ‘I’M NOT PRETTY’ and feels some sort of companionship and reassurance from it!‘
