LIVE REVIEW: Sarah Darling @ Sounds Of Nashville in Cologne
Last night (Saturday, October 12th) Country Music sweetheart Sarah Darling brought her angelic vocals to the city of Cologne for the Sounds of Nashville In The Round showcase alongside Nashville artists Kenny Foster and Robert Counts.
The Iowan native kicked off her intimate set with a soaring rendition of her smash ‘Where Cowboys Ride’ the track is her love letter to Wyoming and recently hit over 3 million streams. The small venue was the perfect setting for the track and Sarah’s honey-toned vocals as she transported the German crowd to Wyoming for four minutes.
She then performed the catchy, as yet unreleased ‘More Issues Than Vogue’ which is a track about her self confessed obsession with shoes and shopping. The toe-tapping, pop crossover song went down a storm and resulted in a huge sing-along from the capacity crowd.
The Nashville based artist then performed ‘Wonderland’ LP track; ‘Timelapse’. The poignancy ballad is all about how the adopted Brit often feels the pace of life is going a little too fast. It’s a gorgeous song and last night her soaring vocals took it to new levels.
After performing three of her own songs, Sarah Darling then sang a perfect rendition of Dolly Parton’s worldwide hit ‘Jolene’ which again had the Cologne audience in full voice. The singer/songwriter strips the song right back to its core and allows the heartbreaking lyrics to really hit home, which ensures she makes it truly her own.
The Nashville based artist closed out her set with the gorgeous, heart-string pulling ‘Wasted’. This one will forever hold a special place in my heart and it’s always a major highlight when Darling includes it in her live set and dedicates it to me. This track tells my story and last night Cologne got to hear one of the most relatable songs live, hopefully finding some peace along the way if they are struggling with the subject matter.
The whole writers round ended with the mass sing-along of the John Denver smash ‘Country Roads’ which Sarah and Kenny Foster recently released via YouTube together. It was the perfect way to round up a truly mesmerising evening of live music and the trio of artists left the stage to huge cheers and calls of “more” from the adoring crowd.
During the night fans were also treated to a Premiere of a brand new song from Darling. The track is titled ‘Waves’ and tells the story of a lost love. It has achingly beautiful vibe of what could have been. It’s a real standout from the Iowan and one that showcases her natural ability.
Overall it seems Sarah Darling is becoming an adopted German too as the nation falls in love with her charming personality and spine-tingling soaring vocals.
She was so gracious on stage last night saying how it’s a dream to travel Europe and to perform in such beautiful cities as Cologne. The crowd simply loved her and this run of German live dates will surely only see her stock rise across the country.
