The Truth Behind the Song #17 – Michelle Brooke’s ‘Storm’

Welcome to our ‘The Truth Behind the Song’ feature. For this feature, we’ve asked a number of our favourite artists to give us in-depth piece about a song that has a special place in their heart. Today we feature the wonderful Michelle Brooke, who gives us an insight into the meaning behind ‘Storm’.

Even though “Storm” was born out of a painful and confusing time in my life, the day that I wrote it will remain one of my favorite memories. I had been living with the lyrics and a melody, and I called two of my greatest friends and musical collaborators, Jordan Phillips and Adam Stark (Apollo LTD). We camped out in their Nashville studio in July 2018 and finished writing the song in a day. I trusted them with a very vulnerable story (the song was written about my first relationship with a woman). You’d think that writing an epic break up song would be a painful process, but we laughed so much that day. They are very humble human beings, and I don’t think they’ll ever realize that the single handily jump-started my career as an artist. They introduced me to my producer Mitch Dane, and encouraged me to just make music and be myself. You’re only as good as the people you work with, and you could definitely say that I got struck by lightning. 😉

“Storm” is the first single off of Michelle’s debut EP “Let the Light in,” releasing early 2020.
