The Truth Behind the Song #18 – Helena Mace’s ‘Runaround’

Welcome to our ‘The Truth Behind the Song’ feature. For this feature, we’ve asked a number of our favourite artists to give us in-depth piece about a song that has a special place in their heart. Today we feature the wonderful Helena Mace, who gives us an insight into the meaning behind ‘Runaround’.

Runaround is the first of 2 releases with Nineyards Music.

It tells the story of a rocky relationship, where the guy keeps giving her the Runaround, lies about his past and she never knows whether she is coming or going and he just turns up out of the blue, whenever he feels like it.
However, when they are together, things are great and the relationship feels like the first time they met until he disappears again. She does feel in control of the situation when he isn’t there but when he turns up, she feels a little over her head on occasions.
Its not a song about control or weakness in a relationship, it’s a song about falling for someone a lot quicker than you planned but because of all the ups and downs, you feel like you are being messed around. I think a lot of people can relate to that. Sometimes you cannot help who you fall for. Deep down, they both know that if the relationship was to end, they would both have lots of regrets. It seems like a whirlwind romance and they both want to commit but she feels like he runs away from it.
Its an upbeat, modern style country song but also with a traditional country feel and highlights the trials and tribulations of relationships and the way we sometimes, let things happen even though we aren’t always sure how we can make it go the distance.
The video shows a lovely South Coast Autumnal setting, where the song is brought to life in a authentic, natural style. We wanted a location that was picturesque and we could do a natural looking video with a sepia tone to really bring out the feeling of the song and the style of music.
