The Truth Behind the Song #21 – Helena Mace’s ‘Take Me Away’

Welcome to our ‘The Truth Behind the Song’ feature. For this feature, we’ve asked a number of our favourite artists to give us in-depth piece about a song that has a special place in their heart. Today we feature the wonderful Helena Mace, who gives us an insight into the meaning behind ‘Take Me Away’.

Helena Mace:
When I started work on the lyrics for Take me away,  I knew I wanted to draw experiences from my life and others when you have been in a situation where you feel like you just need to breathe for a second and get away either from your situation , whether it be a relationship,  a mundane way of living or in my case a diagnosis of a tumour.   The diagnosis had left me feeling a bit trapped in my own head and feelings as I  hadn’t been sure how to deal with it when I was told the news. I just felt like getting away, maybe escape for a while and get to grips with my new situation.
The song is set almost in a dream like state where the lyrics , say Take me away to somewhere beautiful,  scenic and idyllic where you can hear.only ocean waves and the cry of eagles,  sounds I had always found calming.
When we filmed the video,  we wanted it to be artistic so it showed a dark place with light at the end . The song itself is very minimal as we wanted the music and lyrics to speak for themselves and the video to show that.”
The song is not a depressing piece of work, its aim is to show the light at the end, portraying the fact that a dark place , can indeed lead to somewhere beautiful whether it’s in your head or in real life. You just need to take the time to sit down, breathe and address whatever the situation is and eventually you can move on.”
